5 Powerful Lessons From Genesis So Far (And Why They're Still Relevant Today)
If you've ever started reading the bible at Genesis thinking, "Yeah, yeah... I've heard this before," and then suddenly found yourself questioning your entire existence over a talking snake, welcome to the club.
Genesis isn't just a collection of ancient stories.
It's full of real people making questionable decisions, facing impossible situations, doubting God, messing things up, and somehow finding grace anyway.
Honestly?
It's surprisingly relatable.
As I've been creating my Genesis-inspired collection at KEOLIX, a few lessons have stood out more than others.
Here are five powerful lessons from Genesis that still hit just as hard today.
1. Sometimes The First Step Is Simply Turning On The Light
"Let there be light." — Genesis 1:3
The very first thing God does in Genesis is bring light into darkness.
No complicated strategy.
No five-year plan.
Just light.
How many times have we sat staring at a problem, convinced we need every answer before we can move forward?
Starting a business.
Applying for a new job.
Beginning a new chapter.
Healing after something painful.
We want the whole roadmap.
God starts with the next step.
The light comes first.
The rest follows.
That's why our Let There Be Light Sticker has become one of my favourite designs in the Genesis collection. It's a simple reminder that you don't need to see the entire journey before you take the next faithful step.
God Sees You Even When Nobody Else Does
"You are the God who sees me." — Genesis 16:13
Poor Hagar.
She's often overlooked when people talk about Genesis.
She was alone.
Rejected.
Heartbroken.
And sitting in the wilderness wondering what her future looked like.
Then God met her there.
Not in a palace.
Not on a mountaintop.
Not after she'd earned it.
In the middle of her mess.
That's what makes this passage so powerful.
Because we've all had moments where we feel invisible.
Maybe nobody notices how hard you're working.
Maybe you're carrying responsibilities nobody understands.
Maybe you're praying prayers that feel unanswered.
Genesis reminds us that being unseen by people doesn't mean you're unseen by God.
Our God Sees You Sticker was designed around this truth because sometimes you need a visible reminder on your laptop, journal, water bottle, or Bible page that you're not forgotten.
3. Provision Often Shows Up At The Last Minute
"The Lord will provide." — Genesis 22:14
If we're being honest, most of us would prefer God provide before we start panicking.
Abraham probably would've appreciated that too.
Instead, Genesis 22 gives us one of the most intense moments in the entire Bible.
And right when everything seems impossible...
God provides.
Not early.
Not late.
Exactly when needed.
It's one of those lessons that's easy to put on a greeting card and much harder to live through.
But looking back, most people can point to moments where provision arrived in ways they never expected.
A conversation.
An opportunity.
A solution.
A door opening.
A bill covered.
A prayer answered.
The mountain where you thought you'd face disaster becomes the place where God reveals His faithfulness.
That's the heart behind our The Lord Will Provide Sticker and matching print collection.
Because some reminders are worth seeing every single day.

4. God Is Closer Than You Think
"Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it." — Genesis 28:16
Jacob literally falls asleep with a rock as a pillow.
Not exactly luxury accommodation.
Then he has a dream of a ladder reaching into heaven.
When he wakes up, his response is surprisingly human:
"Wait... God was here?"
Sometimes we assume God only shows up during the big moments.
The dramatic prayers.
The miracles.
The emotional worship experiences.
But Genesis keeps reminding us that God is present in ordinary places too.
School runs.
Work shifts.
Busy kitchens.
Long commutes.
Packing orders.
Laundry mountains.
The Lord isn't waiting for us to reach some perfect spiritual state before He draws near.
He's already there.
Our He Is Here Sticker was inspired by Jacob's revelation because it's a truth we forget constantly.
Not because God moves.
Because we get distracted.
5. God Uses Imperfect People
This might be the biggest lesson in Genesis.
Seriously.
Read the book.
Nobody has it together.
Adam blames Eve.
Eve blames the serpent.
Cain loses his temper.
Noah gets drunk.
Abraham lies.
Sarah laughs.
Jacob deceives people.
And somehow God still works through all of them.
That's encouraging because perfection isn't a prerequisite for being used by God.
Good thing too.
If it was, we'd all be in trouble.
Genesis isn't a story about flawless people.
It's a story about a faithful God.
And that's what makes it so powerful.
Bringing The bible: Genesis Into Everyday Life
One thing I've loved about creating the KEOLIX Genesis collection is turning these powerful truths into simple visual reminders.
Because let's face it:
We forget.
A lot.
Sometimes seeing a sticker on your laptop or a print on your wall is enough to bring your attention back to what matters.

Final Thoughts
Genesis isn't really a book about creation.
Or floods.
Or ladders.
Or even talking snakes.
It's a book about God revealing who He is.
The God who brings light into darkness.
The God who sees you.
The God who provides.
The God who is present.
The God who works through imperfect people.
And if Genesis teaches us anything, it's this:
The same God who was faithful then is still faithful now.
